VEHICLE–PEDESTRIAN INTERACTIONS INTO AND OUTSIDE OF CROSSWALKS: EFFECTS OF DRIVER ASSISTANCE SYSTEMS

چکیده
This study aimed to analyse the driver’s behaviour during interaction with a pedestrian crossing into and outside zebra crossing, evaluate effectiveness of two kinds Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) that provided driver an auditory alert, visual alert detect pedestrian. 42 participants joined experiment conducted using fixed-base driving simulator Department Engineering (Roma Tre University). They experienced different conditions (legal illegal) ADAS (no ADAS, warning warning) in urban scenario. The parameters Time-To-Arrive (TTA) Speed Reduction Time (SRT) were obtained from drivers’ speed profiles last 150 m advance conflict point Results clearly showed criticality illegal crossings. When crossed crosswalk, highest number collision occurred ANalysis Of VAriance (ANOVA) returned significant effects on both dependent variables TTA SRT, highlighting higher vehicle–pedestrian more abrupt yielding manoeuvre. Positive (the was less critical manoeuvre smoother) emerged for assistance systems, although not statistically significant. Besides, systems positively affected average cautious drivers. No recorded aggressive drivers, which because their behavioural characteristics ignored alarm. In addition, no very adjusted even before alarm trigger. Finally, outcomes questionnaire submitted highlighted clear preference warning, probably physical stimuli are solicited by signal. results confirm adequate paths should be planned avoid jaywalker conditions, induce assume provide useful findings detection.
